Have you ever felt that you were in the clear, and then it becomes extremely obvious that your life is a ball of yarn unwrapping at the nice pace?

K Honey and I feel this way.

Thursday we got a phone call from the construction company informing us they want to start building on the foundations on Tuesday. This is good news! The bad, however, is when we called our financial advisor about the status of our loan applications. One rejected and the other will probably be, too.

Why? We had a bad “credit scoring”. This apparently is a handy-dandy numbering system that lets them know if we are trust worthy or something. I’m not entirely sure what it shows because, according to the bank, we financially qualified.

After longer discussion, we learned that we may have some unpaid parking ticket, unknown bank account in the red, or, well, who knows? In Poland, banks don’t have to necessarily tell you why they won’t give you the loan, they just told us that we had a bad credit score, and that’s it.

What now?

It’s a little unclear to us what to do next. I guess we have to learn what our credit report says… but it’s not as simple as logging onto a website and putting in some personal information. It’ll take some time and there seems to be a strong bias against private individuals and a strong favor to companies in this process. For example, a company can put a private individual on the “national debtor’s list”, but a private individual can put a company or another individual on it.

The good news is that we’ve learned that some banks don’t look at this as a decision for giving a loan. It’s a bit more foot work, but it should go faster this time.
