Laying foundations, buying pink shoes, and transitions

My regular readers (all two dozen of you) may notice that I’m not publishing very often anymore.
It’s not that I’ve lost interest in blogging, or in being a father or even really writer’s block. Quite to the contrary, I’m very excited about all these things in fact (except writer’s block, of course).
The problem is I haven’t had the time recently to sit down and write out some quality material. I have some really good ideas and that’s what I want to share. I don’t like simply replicating already published material. It’s not what I’m about or what this blog is supposed to be. I want to be proud of it and I want my readers’ to love reading it because it’s interesting, educational, and maybe even inspiring.
K Honey and I have been very busy lately. Even though it’s summer and technically teachers don’t work, we are still pretty busy with big projects.
Building a house
Although we aren’t building it ourselves, there’s plenty of paperwork to take care of in bureaucratic Poland. We are fighting to get a decent mortgage (rule of thumb: banks only want to talk to you if you already have money. In other words, if you really don’t need the bank, the bank wants you… I can assure you the bank doesn’t want us), looking for floor panels and tiles as well as picking out doors and windows. Takes up a lot of time.
The reality of the situation has really sunk in though. At the beginning of this month, the building company laid the foundations of our new home! Instead of there being a flat area with bushes and tall grass on it, now there’s a big cement slab on it with a HUGE pile of dirt next to it.
Buying pink shoes
SoSo is a girl, or will be one when she’s born… or is one now but isn’t born yet so I’m not really used to referring to her as “she” but rather as “it”. That’ll change soon enough. It’s started to because K Honey bought a TON of clothes for SoSo online on an auction website like eBay, but in Polish. For a total of about $65, she bought about 120 articles of clothing, including shirts, pants, jumpsuits, socks, caps, and shoes… pink little shoes. It’s ridiculously small and cute. Again, reality is sinking in: I will be a father soon!
Transitions
With the above two facts manifesting themselves at the same time, it’s got me thinking. Rarely does a person have such huge changes in his life; when you’re young, they are more common and when you’re old they become fewer (or so I’m told). The last big change was four years ago, when I finished college and moved out here. Getting married a year ago was also a big change, but I did not feel it. This is WAY bigger.
But this isn’t just a case of personal change, it’s seeping into the professional aspects of my life. This summer, for example, I’ve got a good job working lessons which keeps me alive in these pleasant but not really lucrative months. However, a lot of other job offers and new paths altogether have started to open up. I may be getting offers in the near future that my present new opportunities and possibilities for me.
I guess what I want to say is that when transitions come, they come in mass and will shuffle you around like a vegas deck of cards.
Thanks for being patient. I promise new and good content is to come!
