DADAs a father-to-be, I’ve been scouring the internet for useful resources that will help me with the very basics of parenthood.

This is perhaps one of the best resources I’ve found yet: Project DAD.

Project DAD is an initiative funded by the European Union that seeks to provide e-learning resources for fathers and fathers-to-be. It’s available in English, German, Czech, Polish, Dutch and Romanian. They are interested in expanding their offering, so you can help localize it if you’re interested.

The authors of the DAD Guide feel that European fathers-to-be need help in meeting the changing challenges of fatherhood. Among other things, they mention the lack of baby care services for fathers and future fathers in general, shifting social models and family structures, the lack of importance placed on the role of the father during the child’s infancy, higher numbers of women at work, etc.

The interactive guide consists of nine lessons, all with video presentations and tests afterwards. They are as follows:

  1. How do I properly carry my child?
  2. What must I take care of when hanging a nappy?
  3. How do I prepare a feeding bottle?
  4. What do I do when flatulence occurs?
  5. How do I properly dress my child?
  6. What do I have to take care of with respect to transport?
  7. How do I properly bathe my child?
  8. What is the best way for my child to fall asleep?
  9. When does my child have to see a doctor?

Obviously, this resource is not just for European fathers, but is in fact pretty international. I will be doing my homework in the days leading up to my baby’s birth, and this will be a big part of my study.
